  By the way, what prompted the thread is unexpectedly learning that one of those sister had separated from her JW husband. Something I am seeing quite often, especially in couples who have stayed together in the truth for 20 years or more, and raised their children there too. It seems that in many of those cases divorce follows after disfellowshipping or fading of the male mate. A story that we all are very familiar with: "man wakes up, man tries awakening female, female talks to the elders, male gets disfellowshipped, male and female divorce"

  I see only doom and gloom in the horizon. You better watch out Watchtower.

  @tor1500: Do you know why? They have a place to belong.

  Yes. that's the main reason. Many of the older ladies (40 and up) don't fit in the new order of internet and social media and also would feel lonely, lost and depressed outside of the org. In fact, there's many older men who also are part of this class. They need the org to find purpose, a sense of importance and a social life, in spite of all the abuse.

  mathematically measuring evolution.. when judging relationships in terms of morphological characteristics we will always be bound by the subjective.

  morphologically one cannot exactly measure the distance between two organisms strictly in mathematical terms.

  using the standard method of taxonomy we cannot quantify the difference between a horse and a mouse, or know which is closer mouse to cat, or mouse to fish.

  If evolution were true, and creatures gradually evolved from one to another, there should be intermediate forms. Intermediate forms should be found in living creatures, in the fossil record, and at the bio chemical level. As to the fossil record none are found.

  You are right, there's no intermediate forms between a donkey and a horse. I wasted my time reading evolution books

  Here are the details::

  2 happily married to believers who do the minimum to stay off the radar of congregation police,

  3 single and over the age of 30,

  5 are/were married to non-believers,

  1 divorced/separated from ex-believer.

  Not a single sister was married to what you would call "a very spiritual" brother, and the great majority don't even have a husband in the "truth". It's interesting that the very people who are treated like second class citizen stick it out for this organization

  "Forced" study with an Elder - The first question i will pose, help appreciated.

  hello folks.

  as some of you might know my dad couldnt keep quiet about my view of the world, so i have been "forced" to study with an elder.

  otherwise i would be dragged to questioning, which is to much pressure for a young inexperienced person like me.

  Have fun! No sarcasm or irony intended.

  Do your research secretly, but play along. Use the "Bible" study as an entertainment moment or perhaps a study of the mind of cult members. That's what I have done in the last five years. It certainly will be an education that can be useful in the years to come to shield you from propaganda and cults.

  I am not asking you to sacrifice your truthfulness. You keep that, but don't waste it, or even harm yourself, by having a candid conversation with an elder.

  Just have fun knowing that you know far more than your teacher. However, you want to play dumb, very dumb, and perhaps drag the study to frustrate your "teacher". "Be stupid enough to not understand" and therefore be able to say that you are not ready for baptism, or pioneering, or anything that consumes your valuable time. Just don't play smart. that's not good at this time.

  It's been some time since I read a Watchtower magazine. What a ride!! The article before (Be happy by enslaving to the GB) and the article after (GT and firearms) the propaganda article are also filled to bursting capacity with propaganda.

  Science and religion are entirely different animals. Science deal with the physical universe where evidence can be gathered, observed and analyzed by everyone (objectivity). Religion is a personal thing in the individual's brain and lacks any evidence, just emotional appeal (subjectivity). Comparison of religion and science is only adequate when you contrast them, not when trying to find similarities.

  If religious people such as yourself despise "scientism" so much and love "God" so much, why do they search for the best doctor when struck with cancer or any other chronic disease? Wouldn't it be better to go to your favorite pastor and get a quick cure in exchange for a small donation to the church?
